The final of the Emily Hurt Pennant was held at Belconnen – oops – Burns Golf Club last Friday between Yass and Royal Canberra. The day started out cold and with a miserable wind. It was very hard to recognise most players with the amount of clothes being worn. Happy to report there was quite a few spectators as well which is very encouraging for the players. As you would expect with Emily Hurt Pennant, the match was hard fought, with a couple of matches being very close. The winning team was Yass. They are also the defending Champions from 2022. Congratulations to Yass on a fine effort. There was the usual camaraderie between teams which is so nice to witness and much hilarity in the clubhouse after the match.
As always Emily Hurt was in attendance for this event and Emily’s son and grandchildren were also there having just arrived from Switzerland. Emily was, as always, her usual funny self, despite being quite frail.
We must also give thanks to Margaret Hardy who again extended her hospitality and assistance throughout the day.
