Canberra Shield

CANBERRA SHIELD

The trophy is donated by Emily Hurt.

This event was initiated to give non-pennant players in the Canberra Clubs the opportunity to experience matchplay.  The first match was played at Federal in 1990.   Each team consists of 8 players in handicap order and the draw must ensure that the eight members of a club play against the members of different clubs.  This means that there must be an even number of teams. There is a table to show how this draw is done.
All members finish at the 18th  with 2 points for a win and 1 point for a loss. In 2006, this event was taken over by the CSGA, it having previously been run by the Canberra Clubs’ captains.
This event has traditionally been restricted to Canberra clubs.
If you need to make up the even numbers, Yass is usually invited first and then Goulburn.
Note that Queanbeyan is included as a Canberra Club
