With great sadness, we announce the passing of Emily Hurt on 5 July 2025. Emily was a strong supporter of the CSGA, serving on the committee for many years. 1983 saw the introduction of the Encouragement Shield for players with handicaps of 28-36. This changed to 30-45, when the new handicap system was introduced and the Encouragement Shield was renamed the Emily Hurt Shield in honour of her efforts in promoting golf. Emily with her woodwork skills made the trophy as well.

Emily was a member of Federal Golf Club for 49 years and was the first female director of the club. Emily also served as the Women’s Captain in 1982-83 and in 1995. Emily implemented the now famous SwinG program at Federal, working endlessly to share technique and golf etiquette to women starting golf later in life.

Rest in peace Emily and thank you for your service to the CSGA.
